Salt Water Aquarium Program

The month long packaged program features a 20 gallon salt water aquarium stocked with invertebrate animals, changed weekly, which the 5th and 7th grades will observe and study.

Classroom Aquarium Project

This grant will supply freshwater aquarium and training to six non-science classrooms at Wilson. Students will be trained to conduct water tests and to perform general aquarium maintenance. Students will keep maintenance records and will take responsibility and leadership roles in caring for the aquatic animals.

Writing in the Primary Grades

For further research in the area of children's writing. Their grant, Writing in the Primary Grades, will enable them to work with a local writing consultant and the purchase resource materials.

We All Belong
Carol Finn, Kindergarten teacher at Ben-Hem
Purchase of multicultural materials and resource books to foster acceptance among the children and to promote an understanding that We All Belong.

What In The World Is Telecommunications?
Debbie Mitchell, Patricia Luke, and Maureen Feeney, Brown School
A K-4 program entitled "What In The World Is Telecommunications?" The project uses National Geographic's Kid's Network to communicate with participating schools worldwide over a six week period; students will share information about Natick's location, weather, animal life and community.

Chinese New Year: A Lesson in Cultural Diversity

To be taught in six 2nd or 3rd grade classes, the lesson uses Chinese art, music, dance, crafts, stories, phrases, and food to lead the children to think about the differences and similarities among cultures and about what it means to be "an American."

The Living Portfolio for Learning Center students
Bebi Zanboni, Nancy Wilson, Donna Moor, and Patricia DiTulio, Johnson
The Portfolio provides tools for self-expression and self-evaluation using multi-media.

A Magical Connection
Margaret Donohoe, Patricia McCormick and Gael Daly, Johnson School
A Magical Connection between kindergartners and 4th graders, who will read fairy tales to their "Book Buddies.” The curriculum will be integrated to include literacy, social studies, art, and music.

Nature Watch
Jean Lombardini and Mary Beth Kinkead, Johnson School
Third grade teachers will team with Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary teachers for a unit on plants and animals of Natick. Nature Watch includes classroom visits by Broadmoor teachers, as well as filmstrips and resource books.

Animal Life Cycle Unit
Regina Pratt, 1st grade teacher at Johnson School
Life cycles of beetles, butterflies, frogs, and chickens will be observed and compared.
